   abstract = {Despite the tremendous progress recently made towards automatic sleep staging in adults, it is currently unknown if the most advanced algorithms generalize to the pediatric population, which displays distinctive characteristics in overnight polysomnography (PSG). 
To answer the question, in this work, we conduct a large-scale comparative study on the state-of-the-art deep learning methods for pediatric automatic sleep staging. Six different deep neural networks with diverging features are adopted to evaluate a sample of more than
1,200 children across a wide spectrum of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) severity. Our experimental results show that the individual performance of automated pediatric sleep stagers when evaluated on new subjects is equivalent to the expert-level one reported on adults. Combining the six stagers into ensemble models further boosts the staging accuracy, reaching an overall accuracy of 88.8%, a Cohens kappa of 0.852, and a macro F1-score of 85.8%. At the same time, the ensemble models lead to reduced predictive uncertainty. The results also show that the studied algorithms and their ensembles are robust to concept drift when the training and test data were recorded seven months apart and after clinical intervention. However, we show that the improvements in the staging performance are not necessarily clinically significant although the ensemble models lead to more favorable clinical measures than the six standalone models. Detailed analyses further demonstrate "almost perfect" agreement between the automatic stagers to one another and their similar patterns on the staging errors, suggesting little room for improvement.},

   abstract = {Background: Black-box skepticism is one of the main hindrances impeding deep-learning-based automatic sleep scoring from being used in clinical environments. Methods: Towards interpretability, this work proposes a sequence-to-sequence sleep-staging model, namely SleepTransformer. It is based on the transformer backbone and offers interpretability of the model's decisions at both the epoch and sequence level. We further propose a simple yet efficient method to quantify uncertainty in the model's decisions. The method, which is based on entropy, can serve as a metric for deferring low-confidence epochs to a human expert for further inspection. Results: Making sense of the transformer's self-attention scores for interpretability, at the epoch level, the attention scores are encoded as a heat map to highlight sleep-relevant features captured from the input EEG signal. At the sequence level, the attention scores are visualized as the influence of different neighboring epochs in an input sequence (i.e. the context) to recognition of a target epoch, mimicking the way manual scoring is done by human experts. Conclusion: Additionally, we demonstrate that SleepTransformer performs on par with existing methods on two databases of different sizes. Significance: Equipped with interpretability and the ability of uncertainty quantification, SleepTransformer holds promise for being integrated into clinical settings.},

abstract = {Multi-shot techniques offer improved resolution and signal-to-noise ratio for diffusion- weighted imaging, but make the acquisition vulnerable to shot-specific phase variations and inter-shot macroscopic motion. Several model-based reconstruction approaches with iterative phase correction have been proposed, but robust macroscopic motion estimation is still challenging. Segmented diffusion imaging with iterative motion-corrected reconstruction (SEDIMENT) uses iteratively refined data-driven shot navigators based on sensitivity encoding to cure phase and rigid in-plane motion artifacts. The iterative scheme is compared in simulations and in vivo with a non-iterative reference algorithm for echo-planar imaging with up to sixfold segmentation. The SEDIMENT framework supports partial Fourier acquisitions and furthermore includes options for data rejection and learning-based modules to improve robustness and convergence.},

abstract={Magnetic particle imaging is a tomographic imaging technique that allows one to measure the spatial distribution of superparamagnetic nanoparticles, which are used as tracer. The magnetic particle imaging scanner measures the voltage induced due to the nonlinear magnetization behavior of the nanoparticles. The tracer distribution can be reconstructed from the voltage signal by solving an inverse problem. A possible application is the imaging of vessel structures. In this and many other cases, the tracer is only located inside the structures and a large part of the image is related to background. A detection of the tracer support in early stages of the reconstruction process could improve reconstruction results.},

abstract="In this publication, a new blind motion correction algorithm for magnetic resonance imaging for arbitrary sampling trajectories is presented. Patient motion during partial measurements is estimated. Exploiting the image design, a sparse approximation of the reconstructed image is calculated with the alternating direction method of multipliers. The approximation is used with gradient descent methods with derivatives of a rigid motion model to estimate the motion and extract it from the measured data. abstract = {Multi-shot diffusion-weighted MRI allows for higher spatial resolution than single-shot approaches, but suffers from image artifacts due to motion-induced shot-specific phase variations. Advanced parallel imaging reconstructions can mitigate these effects, but a comparison of these approaches is still missing, especially for the widespread EPI. Following the concept of reproducible research, a number of algorithms were implemented, adapted and refined for EPI, and compared in simulations and in-vivo. Results show different performance and applicability. The iterative feedback and the sharing of joint global information in the reconstruction and appropriate constraints were found to be crucial for high-quality high-resolution DWI.},

  abstract = {This work presents a feature-extraction method that is based on the
	theory of invariant integration. The invariant-integration features
	are derived from an extended time period, and their computation has
	a very low complexity. Recognition experiments show a superior performance
	of the presented feature type compared to cepstral coefficients using
	a mel filterbank (MFCCs) or a gammatone filterbank (GTCCs) in matching
	as well as in mismatching training-testing conditions. Even without
	any speaker adaptation, the presented features yield accuracies that
	are larger than for MFCCs combined with vocal tract length normalization
	(VTLN) in matching training-test conditions. Also, it is shown that
	the invariant-integration features (IIFs) can be successfully combined
	with additional speaker-adaptation methods to further increase the
	accuracy. In addition to standard MFCCs also contextual MFCCs are
	introduced. Their performance lies between the one of MFCCs and IIFs.},

  abstract = {Hands-free telecommunication systems usually employ
subsystems for	acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), listening-room
compensation (LRC) and noise reduction in combination. This contribution
discusses a combined system of a two-stage AEC filter and an LRC filter
to remove reverberation introduced by the listening room. An inner AEC
is used to achieve initial echo reduction and to perform system
identification needed for the LRC filter. An additional outer AEC is
used to further reduce the acoustic echoes. The performance 	of
proportionate filter update schemes such as the so-called  proportionate
normalized least mean squares algorithm (PNLMS) or the improved PNLMS
(IPNLMS) for system identification of equalized impulse response (IR)
are shown and the mutual influences of the subsystems are analyzed. If
the LRC filter succeeds in shaping a sparse overall IR for the
concatenated system of LRC filter and room impulse response (RIR), the
PNLMS performs best since it is optimized for the identification of
sparse IRs. However, the equalization may be imperfect due to channel
estimation errors in periods of convergence and due to the so-called
tail-effect of AEC, i.e. the fact that only the first part of an RIR is
identified in practical systems. The IPNLMS is more appropriate in this
case to identify the equalized IR.},

  abstract = {In a pattern classification setup, image segmentation is achieved
	by assigning each pixel to one of two classes: object or background.
	The special case of vessel segmentation is characterized by a strong
	disproportion between the number of representatives of each class
	(i.e. class skew) and also by a strong overlap between classes. These
	difficulties can be solved using problem-specific knowledge. The
	proposed hysteresis classification makes use of such knowledge in
	an efficient way. We describe a novel, supervised, hysteresisbased
	classification method that we apply to the segmentation of retina
	photographies. This procedure is fast and achieves results that comparable
	or even superior to other hysteresis methods and, for the problem
	of retina vessel segmentation, to known dedicated methods on similar
	data sets.}
