Vessel Segmentation and Analysis

This project is the result of a long established collaboration between ISIP and medical research partners.

2D projection imaging - like e.g. angiograms and photographies - is a widely used procedure for vessel visualization.

The segmentation of blood vessels in such images is important not only in the clinical routine, for diagnosis and treatment purposes but also in biometrics (retina vessels) and during evaluation of scientific experiments -e.g. as those aimed at improving the vascularization of transplated skin.

Project Goal

Within the frame of this project we aim at developing specific vessel segmentation algorithms as well as novel vessel enhancement and vessel analysis techniques.

Project Partners

Klinik für Plastische und Handchirurgie, Unversitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein/Campus Lübeck

Software

The VesSeg software tool makes use of some of the algorithms developed within the frame of this project to allow researchers to semi-automatically segment vascular networks in tissue-engineering skin.
